Commodore Teams With CD Projekt Red on $377 Cyberpunk 2077-Themed C64 — BigGo Finance

Commodore is bringing Night City to the retro computing world. The company has unveiled the Commodore 77, a special edition of its Commodore 64 Ultimate developed in partnership with CD Projekt Red and themed around Cyberpunk 2077. It marks what Commodore describes as the first franchise hardware collaboration in the brand’s 68-year history, and it is available for preorder now at $377.

The machine debuted at Gamescom 2026, pairing the modern FPGA reimagining of the classic 1982 home computer with the aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077. While the exterior leans into weathered, graffiti-tagged styling, the more significant changes are under the hood.

Commodore has upgraded the FPGA from the AMD Xilinx Artix-7 XC7A50T found in the standard C64 Ultimate to the larger XC7A100T, roughly doubling the available logic cells. The company says the system remains compatible with more than 99.9% of the over 10,000 existing Commodore 64 games and peripherals.

According to IGN, the unit can now run at up to 77 MHz, a dramatic jump from the original Commodore 64’s 1 MHz, and carries 77 MB of system RAM, up from 16 MB on the standard Ultimate. Commodore notes that the speed boost can make some hand-written programs run impractically fast, but users can toggle the higher clock speed on and off through the system menus.

Design touches include a brushed-metal plate across the function keys, a smoked translucent base with LEDs that react to music, a custom neon power light, and a Commodore 77 badge replacing the original C64 branding. The bundle adds stickers, pins, collectible packaging, and a spiral-bound manual reworked with Cyberpunk 2077 lore and exclusive type-in BASIC programs. The boot screen has also been given a bespoke Cyberpunk 2077-themed BASIC 2.0 treatment.

Each unit ships with a noninteractive demo created by Polish demo group Arise, with an original soundtrack by chiptune artist LukHash. The demo takes advantage of the Ultimate platform’s enhanced hardware, featuring 24 channels of stereo SID chip music and running from a 2 MB cartridge. The cartridge itself is designed to resemble the shards from Cyberpunk 2077, with IGN describing it as an Arasaka-inspired design.

The Commodore 77 is priced at $377 and can be preordered through Commodore’s website. The initial batch is expected to ship in February 2027, according to Commodore.

Commodore has leaned into the retro computing revival in recent years, with the C64 Ultimate earning strong reviews for its faithful recreation of the original hardware experience through modern FPGA technology. The Cyberpunk 2077 tie-in extends that momentum into licensed collaborations, giving collectors and retro enthusiasts a machine that blends 1980s computing heritage with one of the most recognizable gaming franchises of the modern era.
