Top-Rated Indian Firms Tap Longer Bonds as Rate-Hike Bets Grow
Some of India’s top-rated companies can now borrow more cheaply for a decade than for three years.
State-backed Power Finance Corp. pulled a planned shorter-tenor bond sale earlier this week but priced a 15-year issuance. On Thursday, its unit REC Ltd. withdrew a planned two-year note sale while going ahead with debt maturing in about a decade. Bajaj Finance Ltd., India’s largest shadow lender, also raised 50 billion rupees ($523 million) through 10-year debt.
The reason for the rare reversal lies largely in expectations about the Reserve Bank of India. Until recently, government-debt investors had expected the central bank to keep interest rates on hold for a prolonged period. That view has started to unravel after the RBI unexpectedly ended an overseas deposits facility early, adding to liquidity concerns, while its latest policy minutes raised the possibility of a rate increase.
The impact is showing up in India’s $644 billion corporate bond market. Yields on top-rated 10-year debt sold by state-run firms and banks fell below those on three-year paper this week, inverting that part of the curve for the first time in more than a month. The gap, which had widened to 32 basis points, dipped below zero this week. (Bloomberg)

OmniScience Capital sees India becoming a $5.1 trillion economy by FY29
Nominal GDP growth at 9% in US Dollar terms until FY29 could take Indian economy to $5.9 trillion; cleanest banking sector balance sheets in two decades augur well for India’s growth journey.
India’s journey towards a $5 trillion economy has been delayed by a combination of Covid-19, the legacy twin balance-sheet problem and sharp currency depreciation, but the underlying growth trajectory remains intact, according to an analysis by Omniscience Capital.
When the government set the $5 trillion target in FY19, India’s GDP stood at $2.7 trillion. Achieving the target by FY25 implied nominal GDP growth (measured in US Dollar terms) of 10.2% annually. However, GDP reached $3.8 trillion in FY25, representing a nominal CAGR of 5.7% from 2019. It rose further to $4.1 trillion in FY26, taking the CAGR to 5.4%.

Gold inches lower ahead of US Fed’s speech: Manav Modi, Commodities Analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial services Ltd
Gold prices inched lower, as investors remained cautious ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s closely watched Jackson Hole speech, while balancing concerns over persistent inflation, elevated bond yields and ongoing geopolitical tensions. On domestic front, rumors regarding customs duty cut amidst rising smuggling activity weighed on domestic prices and increasing disparity with international bourses.
Markets continued to digest July’s inflation data, which showed core PCE, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, rising 0.2% MoM and 3.3% YoY, in line with expectations but still well above the central bank’s 2% target.
Headline PCE also came in slightly firmer than anticipated, while second-quarter U.S. GDP growth was confirmed at 1.5%, reinforcing the view of a resilient economy facing sticky inflation pressures. The data supported expectations that the Federal Reserve is likely to keep rates unchanged in September, although further policy tightening cannot be ruled out if inflation remains elevated. Investors are now focused on Warsh’s Jackson Hole address for clearer guidance on the inflation outlook and future policy direction.
Geopolitical risks also persist, with the U.S. signaling no immediate return to negotiations with Iran and instead intensifying economic pressure through fresh sanctions, keeping uncertainty around the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz firmly in focus.

Commodity Update — 28 Aug 2026: Gaurav Garg, Head – Research, Lemonn
- Gold $4,580.19/oz ≈ ₹1,40,600/10g 🔴 -0.50%
- Silver $68.79/oz ≈ ₹2,11,200/kg 🔴 -0.60%
- Crude (WTI) $83.31/bbl ≈ ₹7,950/bbl 🔴 -0.30%
- USD/INR: 95.50
Gold and silver edged lower in today’s session as investors remained cautious ahead of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole speech, with markets looking for clarity on the U.S. interest-rate path. Spot gold slipped to around $4,580/oz, while silver eased near $68.8/oz after its recent gains. Meanwhile, WTI crude declined to around $83.3/bbl, with oil heading for a weekly loss as easing concerns around Middle East supply disruptions weighed on prices. On the U.S. macro front, Warsh’s comments are the key near-term catalyst. A hawkish stance, particularly on persistent inflation, could push Treasury yields and the dollar higher, creating further pressure on non-yielding metals. Conversely, a dovish tone could weaken the dollar and yields, supporting gold and silver. For Indian markets, USD/INR near 95.50 and crude prices remain important drivers for MCX metal prices and imported inflation.

A Good Investment Strategy Depends on Planning, Balance and Using Every Piece Wisely: WhiteOak Capital MF
Like a skilled chess player, a smart investor must understand how each fund moves and when to deploy it as market conditions change. Just as every chess piece has a distinct role in building a winning strategy, each equity fund category brings a different capability to an investor’s portfolio.
•Protect Your King – Diversify Your Portfolio Just as every piece works to protect the King, different fund categories together can help build a more diversified and resilient portfolio.
•Unleash Your Queen – Flexi Cap Fund Like the Queen moves freely across the board, Flexi Cap Funds can navigate across large, mid and small caps as opportunities evolve.
•Anchor with the Rook – Large Cap Fund The Rook brings strength and stability to the board, much like Large Cap Funds can provide a relatively stable core with lower volatility.
•Play the Knight – Multi Cap Fund The Knight reaches different parts of the board in its unique way; similarly, Multi Cap Funds maintain meaningful exposure across large, mid and small caps for true market-cap diversification. Position Your Bishop – Large & Mid Cap Fund The Bishop combines reach with direction, much like Large & Mid Cap Funds balance the relative stability of large caps with the growth potential of mid caps.
•Use Your Pawns Strategically – Mid & Small Caps Pawns may start small but can become powerful when they advance—just as promising mid- and small-cap businesses can potentially grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
•Every Piece Has a Purpose – Every Fund Has a Role Winning chess is rarely about one piece; similarly, portfolio construction is about combining strategies so each fund plays its intended role toward the investor’s objective
The key is not choosing one piece over another, but understanding how each can be positioned to strengthen the overall game.

Zerodha Fund House launches Life Cycle Fund 2031, adding five-year target-date option to series
Zerodha Fund House today announced the launch of the Zerodha Life Cycle Fund 2031, extending its target-date fund series to a five-year maturity horizon. The launch follows the June 2026 debut of the Zerodha Life Cycle Fund 2036 and Zerodha Life Cycle Fund 2041, which introduced target-date investing to Indian investors.
Like its predecessors, the Zerodha Life Cycle Fund 2031 is structured around a specific maturity year, called the target year, and invests across a mix of asset classes including equity, debt and commodities like gold and silver. The portfolio follows a pre-defined asset allocation that shifts systematically from a growth-oriented (higher risk) allocation in the early years to a more conservative allocation (lower risk) as the target year approaches. The shift happens automatically, without requiring any action from the investor.
With the addition of the 2031 fund, the Zerodha Life Cycle Fund series now spans three maturity variants – 2031 (5 years), 2036 (10 years) and 2041 (15 years) giving investors a shorter-horizon option built around the same rule-based glide path structure as the original two funds. Additional schemes with varying maturity years are planned over time, so investors at every life stage have a fund built around their timeline.
On the equity side, the fund aims to track the Nifty LargeMidcap 250 index. For the debt exposure, it invests in Indian government securities (G-secs) across different durations. It also takes some commodities and arbitrage exposure.
Talking about the launch, Vishal Jain, CEO of Zerodha Fund House, said, “Investing well isn’t just about picking the right asset class but also about knowing how much to allocate where, staying invested through market ups and downs, and shifting gears as your goal draws near. The Zerodha Life Cycle Fund series handles this shift for you, so that investing stays simple.”
Vaibhav Jalan, CBO of Zerodha Fund House, said, “A lot of financial goals might not sit ten or fifteen years away. A dream car purchase, a milestone birthday trip, a saving kitty for a loan downpayment – these are closer, and they need an allocation that reflects that shorter runway. The 2031 fund is built for exactly that kind of timeline.

Godrej Properties launches Habitat Matters to accelerate low-carbon construction in India
Godrej Properties (GPL) announced the launch of Habitat Matters under Godrej Good & Green Labs, innovation arm of Good & Green, Godrej Industries Group in partnership with Xynteo. This is a CSR initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of low-carbon construction materials in India’s built environment.
India is in the midst of one of the largest construction booms of any economy in the world. By 2050, the country is expected to have approximately 34 billion square metres of new building stocks, with many studies estimating new construction almost doubling its current levels. Every building constructed in that window locks in its environmental footprint the moment it is built, making today’s material choices a decision with consequences that cannot be undone.
Cement, concrete, steel, glass, and blocks that form every wall account for a significant share of construction’s carbon impact, and remain among the least addressed challenges in the industry. Habitat Matters is designed to close the gap between promising low-carbon material innovations and their real-world deployment on a live construction project, by identifying credible innovations, piloting them, and evaluating their performance under real conditions.
Over the next five years, Godrej Properties aims to deploy such pilots, building a body of validated, on-ground evidence that can inform how the wider industry builds going forward.
