Mirae Asset Global Investments’ “TIGER Money Market Active ETF” has posted the highest 3-month annualized yield among money market ETFs listed in South Korea. As of the 26th, its 3-month annualized yield stood at 3.50%, the highest among products in the same category.
The ETF’s 1-month annualized yield came in at 3.77% and its 6-month annualized yield at 3.37%, placing it in the upper ranks. Net assets have grown to ₩3.28 trillion (approximately $2.4 billion), making it a large-cap product in the ₩3 trillion range, while its total expense ratio of 0.04% per year is the lowest among comparable products.
Money market ETFs are products that invest in short-maturity financial instruments such as ultra-short-term bonds, commercial paper (CP), and electronic short-term bonds to pursue interest income. They are characterized by relatively low price volatility while still being tradable intraday on the exchange like stocks.
For this reason, they are used as “parking” vehicles for funds awaiting the right timing to invest in stocks or for idle cash that is not earmarked for use within a specific period. They offer the advantage of pursuing short-term returns without leaving funds sitting idle in cash even during periods when market direction is unclear.
As the money market ETF market has grown, the focus of competition among asset managers has shifted from scale to actual investment performance and costs. Even when investing in similar short-term financial instruments, differences in portfolio construction, management strategy, and fees can lead to variations in the returns investors receive.
In the current environment of heightened market volatility, efficiently managing funds even while waiting for the right investment timing has become increasingly important. Accordingly, investor interest in comparing performance and costs across money market ETF products has been on the rise.
