HDFC Bank shares remained in focus on Friday after the bank said it is exploring an appeal against the National Company Law Tribunal’s (NCLT) decision on media baron Subhash Chandra’s repayment plan of ₹6.5 crore. The stock hit a fresh 52-week low of ₹707 in early trade before trading flat at ₹712.80 at 10.10 am. It had closed at ₹711 on Thursday.

The bank said it had opposed and voted against the resolution, which was approved by the majority, and is exploring filing an appeal at the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

At the time of writing, sell quantity stood at 15,26,198 shares, compared with buy quantity of 13,10,068 shares.

HDFC’s claim

HDFC Bank said its admitted claim was only 3.2 per cent of the total stated claim amount. It added that the bank had inherited the facility, which was previously provided by HDFCLtd.

HDFC Bank had opposed and voted against this resolution, which was approved by the majority. The Bank is exploring filing an appeal at the NCLAT,” the bank said.

The statement came after reports that Chandra had been allowed to pay ₹6.5 crore against admitted claims of ₹22,006.57 crore.

Chandra on Thursday clarified that he “has not borrowed any money from any lender.

Of this, a claim of ₹620 crore has been settled, while a further ₹1,063 crore has been offered to be paid by the borrower entities.

Brokerage view

Macquarie maintained its outperform rating on HDFC Bank with a target price of ₹1,150.

Separately, Sashi Jagdishan’s tenure ends on October 26, 2026, with no clarity yet on an extension. The two paths seen are a six-month extension or a full three-year renewal.
