HDFC Bank shares were in focus on Wednesday amid a media report on Carlisle investors.
The stock traded flat at ₹725.85 on the NSE at the time of writing, after moving between ₹724.15 and ₹728.80.

However, the Nifty Private Bank index gained over 1 per cent to 27,733.10. Majority of the counters including Kotak Mahindra, IDFC First Bank, Bandhan Bank and ICICI Bank posted significant gains, while IndusInd and HDFC Bank dipped to trade in red.
Stock performance
It had closed at ₹727.50 on the previous trading session, and hit a 52-week low of ₹715.10 on August 19, 2026.
According to NSE data, total traded volume stood at 54.30 lakh shares, valued at ₹394.52 crore. Total buy quantity stood at 10,18,342, while sell quantity was 16,44,275.
The total market capitalisation stood at ₹11.18 lakh crore, while the adjusted P/E ratio was 13.99.
On a weekly basis, HDFC Bank’s absolute returns stood at +0.72 per cent. The stock declined 2.37 per cent over one month, while its YTD performance was down 26.83 per cent.
BofA flags strong bank fundamentals
Meanwhile, strong loan growth, improving asset quality and solid capitalisation are supporting the resilience of Indian banks, with HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank emerging as the strongest performers among major lenders, according to a Bank of America (BofA) Global Research report.
The report said HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank reported stronger fundamentals than their peers, with CET1 ratios of 17.4 per cent and 16.25 per cent, respectively. Their gross and net NPL ratios were also among the lowest among major Indian banks at the end of June.
BofA highlighted that private sector banks continued to show stronger capital positions than public sector lenders, with CET1 ratios of 15-17 per cent for private banks compared with 13-14 per cent for public sector banks.
