Joanna Boydell will be leaving the hotel chain

The chief executive of Travelodge has stepped down as the budget chain overhauls its safety procedures after a sexual assault at one of its hotels.

Travelodge said on Thursday that Joanna Boydell would be replaced by Ray Reidy, its finance chief. The departure comes amid scrutiny of the hotel chain after a guest was sexually assaulted by a man who had been wrongly given access to her room in 2022.

Stephen Shurrock, the chairman of Travelodge, said: “This announcement does not change anything about our focus on safety and security. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Jo for her dedication to Travelodge over the last 13 years.”

This is a developing story
