Spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds pulled in roughly $226 million in net inflows over a single trading session, a haul that came close to matching Bitcoin funds on the same day and underscored renewed institutional appetite for regulated ETH exposure.

The single-day figure, drawn from daily flow tracking of U.S. spot Ethereum products, follows a broader pattern: August marked the strongest month for monthly net inflows into these funds since August 2025, according to flow data tracked on Farside’s Ethereum ETF dashboard.

Monthly net inflows measure how much new capital entered the funds after subtracting redemptions. A positive reading means creations outpaced withdrawals, reflecting net demand rather than price movement alone. The current month has now surpassed every monthly reading over the past year, with the prior peak landing in August 2025.

A narrowing, not a reversal

The $226 million single-day print is notable largely because of how close it came to Bitcoin’s daily total. Spot BTC funds launched first and still command the largest pools of regulated crypto capital, making Bitcoin the natural benchmark for ETF flow coverage. When Ethereum products approach Bitcoin’s intake, it suggests demand for ETH exposure is broadening rather than remaining in Bitcoin’s shadow.

The operative word, however, is “nearly.” Ethereum approached but did not clearly overtake Bitcoin’s daily figure, indicating a narrowing gap rather than a role reversal. The trend has been building: ETH funds recently pulled in $713 million over a single week while narrowing the Bitcoin gap, while spot Bitcoin products absorbed $1.918 billion in net inflows over one recent week.

Regional developments and broader context

Ether is not the only asset drawing fund interest. Newer products have also seen activity, with XRP and Solana ETFs attracting institutional inflows, though Bitcoin funds continue to lead the ETF market on overall flow volume.

In Southeast Asia, regulatory momentum is adding a new dimension to the story. Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has begun drafting rules for spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, giving investors in the region a closer look at products that until recently were primarily a U.S. story. The development is being watched closely by market participants from Jakarta to Singapore.

Ether’s relative strength has also been visible in the spot market, where the ETH/BTC ratio recently climbed to its highest level since January during a rally.

What to watch next

The critical question is durability. One strong session says little on its own; sustained inflows across multiple days would carry more weight than a single spike. Flow readings can reverse quickly, as seen when Bitcoin ETFs swung to their biggest inflow since May on shifting macroeconomic data.

The second signal is the Bitcoin gap itself. If ETH funds keep closing in on Bitcoin’s daily totals, that shift in relative demand would be more meaningful than any single dollar figure. If Bitcoin reasserts a wide lead, the near-match becomes an outlier rather than a trend.

Issuer-level leaders — the specific funds driving the flows — should only be named once confirmed against final data. Daily and cumulative flow figures for each U.S. spot Ethereum product are tracked on Farside’s dashboard, and readers should treat the single-day number as provisional, since spot ETF flows are revised as issuers report final tallies.

For traders, the near-term signal is whether daily creations hold positive through the next several sessions or fade back toward redemptions. Persistence, not one strong print, is what separates a durable demand shift from a short burst.
