Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, is pushing Petrojet’s expansion into regional markets as the state-owned Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET) signs a $22.7 million contract to connect Jordan’s Muwaqqar Industrial Development Area to the natural gas network.

Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Waleed Lotfy, Chairman of PETROJET, signed the contract as part of energy cooperation between Egypt and Jordan.

The project covers the design, supply and construction of a natural gas pipeline stretching about 22 kilometers. The line will connect the Muwaqqar industrial area to the Arab Gas Pipeline and include gas pressure reduction and metering stations, as well as sending and receiving facilities.

Moreover, PETROJET will carry out the project through a consortium with Ahmad Yousef Al-Tarawneh and Partner construction company for Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The companies expect to complete the work within 18 months.

The Muwaqqar project forms part of a wider $70 million program to supply natural gas to two industrial cities in Jordan.

The $70 million financing also covers a separate project to supply Al-Rawdah Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Area, where TAQA Arabia initiated a 14-kilometer natural gas pipeline project two days ago.

Both projects are financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jordanian government, represented by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
