Metal Hawk (ASX: MHK) has defined a new high-grade gold discovery at the Thylacine south zone within its Leinster South project in Western Australia’s Agnew-Lawlers region.
The Numbat lode was discovered during drilling of 10 reverse circulation (RC) holes for 1,153 metres as part of the company’s second campaign for the year to follow-up on high-grade results returned from the Thylacine prospect.
Best standout high-grade assays within thick quartz veining were 9m at 12.3 grams per tonne gold from 70m including 5m at 20.7g/t from 72m, 8m at 3.6g/t gold from 40m including 4m at 6.1g/t from 44m, and 3m at 4.2g/t gold from 5m including 1m at 10.8g/t from 7m.
Early interpretations suggest that the lode trends north-to-south and is oblique to the majority of northwest-trending parallel veins mapped at surface.
Metal Hawk confirmed additional drilling would be required to validate this preliminary interpretation, particularly oriented diamond core drilling which would provide more detailed structural data and improve confidence in the geological model.
Additional RC Drilling
Two RC holes drilled at the Thylacine main zone, approximately 200m northwest of the Thylacine south zone, targeted mineralisation and quartz veining identified from previous drilling but did not test the Numbat lode.
The holes returned best assays of 4m at 1g/t gold from 68m; 1m at 2g/t gold from 50m; 3m at 3.4g/t gold from 66m; and 3m at 1.2g/t gold from 99m.
A further two holes east of Numbat, targeting separate mineralisation and did not test the lode itself.
The next campaign of RC drilling is due to commence in late September, with results from the four outstanding holes still pending.
Best Assays to Date
Managing director Will Belbin said the Numbat assays were among some of the best returned from Leinster South to date.
“Our campaign has shown the stacked nature of mineralised quartz veins at Thylacine with drilling demonstrating increasing grade and thickness—we now have an excellent opportunity to build on these results,” he said.
“Since commencing exploration on this project in mid-2024 we have continued to improve our understanding of the gold system at Thylacine and with each successive drill program we have returned increasingly strong results.”
“The combination of significant structures and multiple gold-bearing quartz veins within differentiated mafic host rocks represents a compelling geological setting with excellent potential for further gold discoveries, [and] we believe there is tremendous discovery upside at Leinster South.”
