Meta Platforms (META +0.99%) has not performed well this year, partly due to the company’s massive artificial intelligence (AI)-related investments, which have put pressure on profits and margins. However, the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, remains unapologetically bullish on AI. A few weeks ago, he outlined his vision for the future of AI in an article posted on the company’s website. One of Zuckerberg’s goals is to give everyone highly capable personalized AI agents that work around the clock to help them achieve their goals.
This short summary doesn’t capture everything Zuckerberg said, and some may disagree with his overall view of the AI industry’s trajectory. However, if he is right, several companies could be among the biggest winners of the ongoing AI revolution: Meta Platforms itself and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD +4.36%). Here’s why.

1. Meta Platforms
Imagine what a wealth of personalized AI agents could do for Meta Platforms, a company with 3.60 billion daily active users across its websites and apps as of the end of the second quarter. They could help content creators launch videos and images faster and with less effort, allow businesses to better connect with customers and launch more targeted ads, help people find shopping items much faster, etc.
This could boost engagement on the company’s platforms and perhaps even attract more people to its apps, even though almost half of the world’s population is already part of its ecosystem. Meta Platforms makes most of its revenue from ads on its platform, and this initiative could significantly supercharge that business.

The company may also eventually make money from personalized AI agents, perhaps through paid subscriptions for some of them. So, there are important potential monetization opportunities here for Meta Platforms, and if this works out as the company intends, it may justify its investments in AI. Does any of this make Meta’s stock a buy?
Not necessarily. First, we can’t assume that Meta’s AI vision will come to fruition. Second, the company faces challenges beyond its significant AI-related spending. Meta is dealing with thousands of lawsuits over its allegedly addictive social media platforms and the harm they have caused users.
Still, AI has already had a positive impact on Meta’s advertising business, and the company might also launch a business that rents out excess computing capacity to other corporations. Lastly, the tech leader generates more than enough earnings to cover the costs of the many lawsuits against it, so this challenge likely won’t destroy its business. For all those reasons, the stock remains a buy.
2. Advanced Micro Devices
During the first wave of the AI revolution, companies spent fortunes training AI models, and GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) were the defining hardware of that era. As the agentic AI boom takes off, there could be a growing focus on AI inference, and, as a result, increased demand for CPUs (Central Processing Units).
That’s where AMD comes in. The company is one of the leaders in this field and is already capitalizing on the growing demand for its hardware. In the second quarter, AMD’s revenue increased by 50% year over year to $11.5 billion, while its adjusted earnings per share were $1.66, up 246% compared to the year-ago period.

AMD’s data center segment was even more impressive. Revenue from that unit was $6.7 billion, up 107% year over year, driven partly by rising demand for the company’s EPYC processors. AMD still sees a large addressable opportunity ahead. The company estimates a $220 billion total addressable market in server CPUs by 2030, growing at more than 50% annually through that year.
There is a risk that this market won’t expand as quickly as the company expects, but given the sustained, and even accelerating, demand for its products, AMD looks well-positioned to continue posting excellent financial results over the medium term and deliver market-beating returns.
