At the upcoming session of the Sejm, a vote will take place on President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of the cryptocurrency market bill, announced Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty on Friday. He added that the Sejm will also vote on the veto regarding the bill on the status of a close person.
- After consultations within the coalition, on October 15, I made the decision to introduce a vote on the veto regarding cryptocurrencies at this Sejm session – Czarzasty told reporters in the Sejm.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk approached the Sejm Marshal with a request for a vote on the presidential veto. The head of government stated, among other things, that the matter of the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto “is taking shapes that truly evoke a sense of horror” and that currently no one can doubt that “we need a law that regulates this market.”
President Karol Nawrocki vetoed the cryptocurrency market bill for the third time on June 11. Overruling the veto, meaning re-passing the bill, would mean that the president would be obliged to sign it.
The Sejm Marshal – referring to the Zondacrypto exchange issue – said that “overruling this veto is really rejecting mafia activities with murder in the background.” – This is a rejection of bribery in relation to political parties and in relation to people. This is really a rejection of manipulation regarding the proceedings on this bill. This is really a rejection of allowing people to be deceived – said Czarzasty.
Mr. President, I do not know what motivated you to veto this bill three times, but more and more facts indicate that you might have been doing it not by accident — Czarzasty addressed the president.
The investigation into the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange was initiated by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice on April 17 this year, regarding significant value fraud and money laundering. So far, several thousand crime reports have been submitted.
At the beginning of August this year, the investigation into Zondacrypto was merged with the proceedings in the Silesian branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office, related to the disappearance of the exchange’s founder Sylwester Suszek, who went missing in 2022. The merged investigation is currently being conducted by the Silesian branch of the PK.
On Friday, Wirtualna Polska and TVN24 reported that the wanted former Deputy Minister of Justice, PiS club MP Marcin Romanowski, was seeking asylum in Dubai at the beginning of 2026, and that the head of Zondacrypto, Przemysław Kral, was to arrange this for him; Bartosz Lewandowski, the then lawyer for both men, was to mediate in the contact between them. In response to questions from the editorial offices, Bartosz Lewandowski admitted that he represented Marcin Romanowski and Przemysław Kral, but in the case of the head of the exchange, he revoked all powers of attorney and authorizations for defense. He added that he never encouraged his clients to engage in illegal activities, especially to obstruct proceedings.
Marshal Czarzasty also informed on Friday that at the upcoming Sejm session, which will take place from September 2 to 4, the Sejm will also vote on the presidential veto of the government bill on the status of a close person in relation and a cohabitation agreement. The bill stipulated that two adults could conclude a contract before a notary, registered in the civil registry office, regulating issues such as property community, alimony obligations, housing rights, access to medical information, and burial arrangements. Nawrocki, informing about the veto to the bill in mid-July, argued that he could not “accept a solution that would lead to the loss of the special status of marriage.”
The Sejm can override the presidential veto by a majority of 3/5 of the votes in the presence of at least half of the statutory number of deputies. With a full composition of 460 deputies, this practically means 276 votes to override the veto (assuming all vote).
