Dunamu, which operates the digital asset exchange Upbit, has signed a strategic partnership with global payments technology company Visa, expanding collaboration into stablecoin-based payments, global remittances, and artificial intelligence (AI) payment solutions.
Dunamu announced on the 28th that the two companies unveiled a detailed roadmap for their strategic partnership on the 26th (local time) at Visa’s Global Market Support Center in Mission Rock, San Francisco. The event was attended by key executives including Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok and Oliver Jenkyn, Visa’s Global President. Prior to this, Dunamu and Visa Worldwide Pte. Limited in the Asia-Pacific region had reportedly signed the strategic partnership.
The core of this collaboration is to combine Dunamu’s digital asset technology with Visa’s global payment network to develop new financial services such as stablecoin-based payments and global remittances. Both companies are focused on expanding the safe and reliable use of digital assets and next-generation payment technologies, grounded in stability, transparency, interoperability, and regulatory compliance. Specific collaborative initiatives will be pursued in phases, taking into account relevant laws and regulatory requirements.
Real-world payment applications for stablecoins are also a key area of cooperation. The two companies will explore stablecoin and digital asset-linked payment services in major global markets, and examine ways to expand usage into global remittances, payments, and settlement. They will also jointly explore various business models that leverage the recently unveiled open-standard OUSD to broaden stablecoin utility. The vision is to connect stablecoins to existing global financial and payment infrastructure, expanding the real-world use cases for digital assets.
The collaboration also extends into AI-based payments. The two companies plan to jointly develop new services and business models that combine AI with stablecoin-based payment and settlement infrastructure. In particular, they will broadly examine “Agentic Commerce”—where AI explores products or services and completes purchases and payments on behalf of users—as well as the technology, infrastructure, and ecosystem-building approaches needed for AI payments.
Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok said, “The proliferation of AI, stablecoins, and tokenization is a key trend that will transform how finance and commerce operate. Through our collaboration with Visa, a leader in global payments, we will connect digital assets with traditional finance and create new global financial experiences that users can feel.”
The partnership is notable in that Dunamu, one of Asia’s largest cryptocurrency companies, is signaling its intent to expand beyond exchange operations into payment infrastructure. Visa has also been strengthening its view of fiat-pegged tokens as payment infrastructure, having built its own stablecoin platform and participated in stablecoin payment tests supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The collaboration between the two companies can be interpreted as a signal that this trend is gaining full momentum in the Asian market.
However, the announcement did not disclose specific details such as launch timelines, target regions, which stablecoins will be used, or the payment flow between the two companies. Industry observers note that the practical impact of this collaboration will depend on the stance of regulators and the specific execution plans going forward.
