Defence Holdings (Defence Holdings PLC (LSE:ALRT) shares opened at 1p on Monday, down from Friday’s 1.025p close, before falling to 0.8p in early trading.

The stock was recently quoted at 0.8p to sell and 0.85p to buy, while trading volume had reached about 66 million shares.

The move came as Defence Holdings, a UK-listed software-led defence technology company, announced a £2 million cornerstone investment in a new UK Defence Fund focused on early-stage defence businesses.

The fund will invest between £250,000 and £1 million in minority stakes in private companies at the pre-seed and seed stages, with five businesses currently undergoing initial due diligence.

The initial fundraise is expected to close around the end of September, with the fund targeting full deployment of its initial capital by the end of March 2027.

Defence Holdings will have no obligation to provide further capital, although it can participate in future funding rounds to maintain its percentage interest.

The investment also expands the company’s exposure to defence technology opportunities identified through its Meridian accelerator and wider network, while keeping its core focus on sovereign software capabilities.

The announcement is a material related-party transaction because three Defence Holdings executives are among the fund’s four founding principals, with independent directors approving the investment.

The early share-price decline therefore contrasts with the strategic expansion announced by the company, although the available market data does not establish a specific reason for the fall.
