Diversification of Offerings by Financial Giant Charles Schwab

Charles Schwab, a major player with over $13 trillion in client assets (approximately ¥2,073 trillion), has decided to add three major altcoins—Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), and Chainlink (LINK)—to its existing spot trading service, “Schwab Crypto.”

The company had just begun direct trading of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) in May 2026, but in response to growing market demand, it is set to expand its services within a few months.

Seamless Trading Environment and Robust Operational Framework

With approximately 39 million active accounts, Schwab will unify cryptocurrency trading through its existing website and flagship apps like thinkorswim.

Trading fees are set at 75 basis points (0.75%). The custody will be managed by Charles Schwab Premier Bank, while execution will be handled by Paxos, ensuring a reliable framework. However, this service is not covered by the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) or SIPC (Securities Investor Protection Corporation) and will be available in the U.S. excluding certain regions like New York State and internationally.

Market Impact and Price Trends

The news of a traditional financial institution expanding its offerings has been well-received in the market, with SOL surging over 11% to reach around $107 (¥17,000), while LINK and AVAX also recorded strong gains. Amid rising expectations for other cryptocurrencies, the company plans to gradually increase its asset offerings while maintaining careful risk management.

Diversification Beyond Traditional Finance Products

Schwab is not only focusing on cryptocurrency trading but is also exploring entry into S&P 500-linked prediction markets and options trading in collaboration with Cboe (Chicago Board Options Exchange). While maintaining a cautious stance, it is working to integrate the latest digital financial ecosystem into its existing services.
