Amid the growing evolution of the broad crypto ecosystem, renowned fintech firm Revolut has joined the long list of companies issuing stablecoins.
In a recent announcement shared by the firm earlier today, Revolut announced that it has rolled out its first ever Euro-backed stablecoin, dubbed EURR.
Revolut’s EURR enters crypto market
While this marks a notable expansion of Revolut’s presence in the crypto industry, the move also marks the launch of its first stablecoin backed by the euro.
According to Revolut, EURR will operate as a euro-pegged stablecoin while maintaining an equal value to €1, providing additional payment options to its users.
Notably, Revolut mentioned that EURR is designed to offer onchain access to digitally moving euros among users that have been deemed eligible.
These customers can move the digital euro token among cryptocurrencies, external wallets and supported blockchain networks more easily.
While the stablecoin market has continued to expand, the move positions Revolut for broader expansion across both the crypto ecosystem and the traditional market.
EURR’s regulatory status
Revolut has further revealed that it has launched the stablecoin through its Digital Assets Europe Ltd, which is regulated as a MiCA crypto-asset service provider by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
While EURR has been designed as a euro-pegged digital asset, the stablecoin is issued by Bridge Building S.A., a MiCA-regulated crypto-asset service provider and electronic money institution overseen by Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF).
This implies that the asset has passed major regulatory scrutiny, positioning it as a reliable crypto asset for users looking for a way to trade euros digitally.
