The U.S. Marine Corps has awarded New York-based AI firm Accrete a sole-source contract to deploy a cognitive warfare platform designed to track, analyze, and visualize adversary narratives across the open information environment in real time, marking a significant expansion of the technology’s footprint across U.S. defense agencies.

Under the agreement announced Thursday, Accrete will license its Expert AI Agents — built on the company’s proprietary Knowledge Engine platform — to the Marine Corps, giving analysts tools to process vast streams of open-source data and produce actionable intelligence far faster than human-only workflows allow. The system, known as Argus for Cognitive Advantage, monitors sources ranging from X, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube to Telegram, Reddit, Weibo, and VKontakte, with real-time translation and transcription across 243 languages.

“Cognitive advantage is a warfighting requirement, not a support function, and this award reflects the Marine Corps’ clear recognition of that,” said Bill Wall, CEO of Accrete AI Government. “Furthermore, this sole-source award demonstrates the trust Accrete has built across the Department of War services.”

Beyond Keyword Search

Argus departs from traditional open-source intelligence tools that treat information gathering as a search problem. Instead, the platform tracks how narratives form, evolve, and resonate across the complete information environment — including broadcast media, messaging platforms, and foreign-language outlets — allowing analysts to observe coordinated influence campaigns as they unfold.

The system’s video analysis capability is a key differentiator, according to the company. Argus can transcribe and translate speech, identify objects and scene content, and infer location cues from video clips, compressing hours of footage into minutes of analysis. Clips that previously required end-to-end viewing become searchable, attributable evidence — including content posted in languages the analyst does not read.

Additional capabilities include narrative engines and stance detection that map how conversations shift over time, plus an Audience Simulation Agent that segments populations and models how specific groups might react to a message before it is released. The company said this feature alone reduces weeks of work into a single workflow. Argus Chat, a natural-language query interface, lets analysts interrogate the system conversationally, while automated assessments measure mission outcomes.

Key Argus Capabilities

Capability Function
Narrative tracking Visualizes how stories evolve and resonate across platforms
Video vision Transcribes, translates, and identifies objects, scenes, and locations in clips
Audience simulation Segments groups and predicts reactions to unreleased messages
Argus Chat Natural-language querying of intelligence data
Source traceability AI-generated inferences can be traced back to original sources

Note: Capabilities as described in Accrete’s announcement. The company says the system is designed so that AI-generated inferences can be traced back to their original sources.

Deepening Pentagon Ties

The Marine Corps award extends a relationship that began in 2022, when Accrete first deployed Argus with the Department of Defense. In 2024, the company secured a multimillion-dollar U.S. Army contract to advance the technology for information operations. Argus was also selected for a 2025 AFWERX STRATFI award, a program designed to transition promising technologies from prototype to operational use within the Air Force’s innovation ecosystem.

“The most valuable context in any institution is the know-how trapped in the heads of its best people,” said Prashant Bhuyan, founder, CEO, and chairman of Accrete. “Organizations that never capture it are ceding compounding advantage to adversaries and competitors that do. Argus for Cognitive Advantage is one of the most sophisticated applications of the Knowledge Engine platform, and Accrete is proud to extend it to the Marine Corps as it counters adversaries operating against the United States every day through digital channels.”

The Cognitive Warfare Imperative

The contract arrives as defense planners increasingly focus on competition below the threshold of armed conflict. Adversaries, the company said, now use coordinated narratives, synthetic media, and inauthentic amplification to shape perceptions faster than human analysts can track. The Marine Corps’ investment signals that cognitive operations are being treated as a core warfighting function rather than a support activity.

Founded in 2017, Accrete builds what it calls cognitive infrastructure — systems that unify fragmented data, tacit institutional knowledge, and decision-making into a continuously learning intelligence layer. Its customers span Fortune 500 enterprises as well as U.S. defense and national security agencies. The federal subsidiary, Accrete AI Government, is based in Alexandria, Virginia.

The company positions its Knowledge Engines as a way to encode expert judgment accumulated over decades, enabling AI agents to be trusted with consequential decisions. As AI makes raw intelligence abundant, Accrete argues, judgment becomes the scarce resource — and the Marine Corps contract suggests that argument is resonating in the Pentagon.
